Plastic recycling organization vocal protest using PET cans

APR, a trade organization representing plastic recyclers, recently stood up and protested against canned PET. The plastic recycling organization says that with the gradual disappearance of metal cans, the plastic cans that are replaced will suffer from recycling problems.

According to Steve Alexander, executive director of the association, “There are more and more PET cans on the market. We should think of ways to stop this trend. These are all contaminants. PET recyclers are currently faced with a difficult situation, a sluggish market. The environment makes the price of the original resin very low, which leads to a lower price of recycled resin. With the recycling of plastics caused by the end of the metal can age, the work of PET recyclers has progressed very hard.”

APR’s point of view does not address TruVue plastic cans manufactured by Sonoco Products Co. and Klear cans developed by Milacron Holdings Corp., both of which use polypropylene materials for the food market.

Alexander said his remarks are not directed at a particular company's products. APR said that some media claimed that the cans were recyclable, but the organization protested the remarks.
