ZYP Coatings developed the BORACARB(TM) process technology at the end of May 2003. This technology enables graphite to be processed like high-temperature ceramic materials and can be used in oxidizing environments above 900°C.
Graphite has many useful and excellent properties, including good thermal shock resistance, low production cost, ease of processing, chemical resistance, and good thermal conductivity. However, its main drawback is that it oxidizes above 450°C in the air. This new process technology is an ultra-high temperature gas processing technology that produces a protective cover conversion layer, just like the carbon and nitride layers that steel produces during manufacture.
After being processed by BORACARB technology, graphite can remain in the air for thousands of hours without being oxidized at high temperatures up to 900°C.
