The learning path of domestic printing machine (Part 2)

Autumn mountain pattern

Without a spotlight or a magnificent declaration, after an ordinary handover ceremony, an important scene in the history of Chinese printing presses began. In January 2002, Shanghai Electric Group and Chenxing Group jointly acquired Akiyama, an internationally renowned manufacturer of offset presses that "applies for civil recycling." The seemingly simple and ordinary asset restructuring move is actually another interpretation of the Chinese printer companies' exploration of leveraging channels: through direct acquisition of foreign-funded enterprises, the problem of core technology is solved. For Chinese companies eager for advanced technology, the Qiushan model undoubtedly provides a good copy.

The Qiushan model has also been recognized by the industry. More than one expert in the interview pleaded with us. The Qiushan case is worth writing more. "Without spending too much money, you can learn each other's advanced technology and management, and use the domestic market to seek further development." One person in the industry praised this.

As we all know, the key to breakthroughs in manufacturing is core technology leadership. Although the risks of joint ventures are small, "hand in hand with giants, they may not necessarily become giants." In terms of input and production, foreign holding parties have absolute say and dominance. The core technology is firmly controlled in the hands of foreign parties, and “cannot be digested and absorbed”. Over time, it will inevitably lead to the declining of the company's own brand. The car manufacturing industry is a lesson in front of the car. Looking around, almost all the brands running on the street are foreign brands, but there are few Chinese independent brands.

The various disadvantages that the investment model may bring are seen by people of insight. Now that there is a problem with the model you invite in, what happens when you go out?

As one of the direct operators of Qiushan acquisition, Hu Xiongqing said in an interview with the media that an important purpose of Qiushan acquisition is for the rapid development of Guanghua. According to his statement, to shorten the gap with the international advanced level, we must comprehensively, systematically and systematically introduce and digest international advanced technology.

From Made in China to Created in China

"Having several internationally renowned brands in the industry at the same time is much stronger than fighting for the number one in a small, backward and closed circle." An executive's heartfelt words expressed the voice of the printer.

From "Made in China" to "Created in China", in many people's eyes, this topic seems to be very distant, especially when this topic falls on the printing press industry. "There is a gap between 20 and 30 years. You make progress while others make progress faster." "How can it be possible for a student to become a teacher before students have done well?" There are many similar questions.

It is true that what we have seen and heard are too pessimistic. The development of the domestic multi-color offset printing machine has gone through a long period of 20 years. The mood of the Chinese people also changed from the infinite expectation at that time to the infinite sigh at this time.
The surge in the export of printing machinery and equipment once let people see the dawn. However, after careful consideration, the exported products are mostly concentrated in low-tech products such as die-cutting machines and small offset printing machines, but the real large-scale equipment is rarely patronized.

A CEO even suggested that reporters track the application of patented technology by domestic printer companies. "Many of China's printing machinery patents are applied for by foreigners, and most of the parts they apply for are utility models, not invention patents."

Learning all the time, but still not as good as others. The confusion and helplessness faced by printer companies is just a microcosm of the current status of many manufacturing companies.

However, we cannot regard the existence of these seemingly insurmountable gaps as an excuse to follow the trend and give up our efforts. Because once there is an excuse, the Latin American car industry today may be the future of China's printing industry: the loss of its own brand, become an international giant's foundry workshop.

What we should do is to face the gap.

Let us first look at the experience of the brave. Farther away, as in Hyundai. Like most printing machine companies, the well-known automobile manufacturer Korea Hyundai also started to introduce and imitate, but it did not stop its independent development, but instead combined "created" with "imitation", "imitation" and "creation", In the end, the Hyundai brand has a place in the powerful automotive world. More recently, for example, Shanghai Highly, a manufacturer of air-conditioning compressors, has made a 10-year joint venture and completed the transformation from undertaking foreign technology to surpassing foreign brands. Its production and sales scale ranks third in the world.

The gap means space and direction for further development. What Hyundai and Highlanders of South Korea have encountered is what the Chinese printer industry is experiencing, and their today may also be the tomorrow of the printer industry.

With such a mindset, we can see the various attempts made by printing press companies on the road of technological breakthroughs: from inviting-introducing capital, introducing technology, introducing intelligence, and going out-overseas mergers and acquisitions; from independent research and development to Leverage strength to improve; from simple imitation to independent innovation, a number of technologies start from scratch. The practice of the enterprise objectively promotes the development of China's printing industry.

Learning, digesting, absorbing, and innovating, the seemingly-used eight words are actually the most precise expressions for printing press companies to get rid of the manufacturing status quo and move to a higher level.

On the road of technological breakthrough, there is no shortcut to the south, and what is applicable is useful. The reason is very simple. Even if the most advanced technology is brought to China, if there is no matching digestion and absorption capacity, no advanced technology can play a role. The same is true for investment cooperation.

"You don't need to be greedy for big, new, and complete", the best is the best. Of course, under the applicable premise, it is naturally best if it can rise to a higher level, that is, from simply satisfying the development of the market to guiding the market in a purposeful manner. The combination of production and use, the two-pronged approach, perhaps, the overall level of the printer industry to improve the speed can also go faster.

On the road of technological breakthroughs, there is another point that should also attract our attention-the gap caused by insufficient attention.
For example, investment in research and development. In the printing machine industry, manufacturers with R & D investment accounting for 3% to 4% and above of sales revenue are few and far between, and most companies still walk below this line. And this figure is generally more than 10% among international manufacturers.

Another example is the patented technology mentioned above. It is understood that some enterprises have still maintained a single-digit patented technology so far. For international manufacturers with over a thousand patents, this number is almost unimaginable.

No one can lead forever, and no one will always lag behind. We learn, the ultimate goal is to surpass. It ’s just a little bit, “It takes time, maybe a long time.”
