The Kava Borg Peak in the Meili Snow Mountains is "unreachable"

The highest peak of the Meili Snow Mountain, Kawagebo, is 6,740 meters above sea level. Although it is the highest peak in Yunnan Province, it cannot be considered "higher" than the rolling snow-capped mountains on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. However, after the climbers successfully climbed several peaks above 8000 meters above sea level, Kawagebo still disdains all sentient beings and no one has been able to reach the summit.

Meili Snow Mountain is the sacred site of Tibetan Buddhism. It is located at the head of the eight great mountains in Tibetan areas. For thousands of years, Mount Kawagebo is the sacred place of purity for Tibetans. The majestic and beautiful scenery of Meili Snow Mountain also deeply attracts mountaineering enthusiasts all over the world.

In recent decades, mountaineers from China, the United States, Japan, and other countries have repeatedly climbed the Kawagebo Peak and ended in failure each time. In the face of their previous failures, they also aroused their desire to be the first to board the Kawagebo. In 1991, 17 Chinese and Japanese climbers were all killed when climbing Mount Kawagebo, becoming the most tragic and tragic page in the history of human climbing.

Why is Kavgabo so "out of reach"? In addition to factors such as steep slopes and relatively large elevation differences, the researcher Zhang Qingsong of the Institute of Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences provides us with an explanation from a geography perspective.

The glaciers in the Meili Snow Mountain are mainly affected by the Indian Ocean currents. They belong to the maritime glaciers and are characterized by rapid movement. Meili Snow Mountain is located in the Hengduan Mountains. The north-south Hengduan Mountains are like a passageway. The warm and humid air from the Indian Ocean can go deep into the mountains along the canyon. The flow of the Indian Ocean brings a lot of precipitation every year to the Meili Snow Mountain, so the glacier on the Meili Snow Mountain melts much in the summer and the winter snowfall is enough to supplement it.

After the weather became warmer, the lower parts of the glacier began to melt rapidly. Due to the loss of firm support, the ice in the high places often fell in large swathes. Even if the ice in the higher places did not collapse, it would move slightly downwards. The constant movement of the glaciers makes the ice very unstable and prone to avalanches.

The glacier of the Kawagebo Peak is the most typical marine glaciers. Although climbers generally choose to climb in the winter, Kavagerbo's “active” glaciers have caused them insurmountable difficulties. We do not know what happened to those victims, but the unstable nature of marine glaciers is undoubtedly an important reason why Kawagebo is difficult to reach the top.
