Just as ink-jet proofing will gradually replace various hard proofing methods such as toner, overprinting Cromartine proofing technology, and hard copy Matchprint, screen proofing will also replace other hard copy proofs. Proofing can not only present the final color effect to the user on the paper, but also is a way to convey the customer's intention on the production chain. In the past, the proofing cycle took several weeks. Now it only takes a few days, but the people who need to check and sign samples are growing exponentially, such as front-end printing buyers, prepress, and printing. In many cases, these different departments are located in different places. Soft proofing is not only a very ideal model, but also a must.

Soft proofing has a variety of options when it comes to transmission between multiple parties. The easiest way is low-resolution PDF, which is passed and checked with a small amount of data; the most complicated way is for the customer to check the digital file, check the overprint and filling, measure the density and color value, do the screen annotation, confirm The color and printing effects they see are accurate.

What makes this possible is the convergence of web-based communication and color profiles, improved displays, and open minded ideas that are willing to make a good change to existing work practices.

As a color standard, such as ISO12647, has been widely accepted, it makes the determination of colors easier through the definition of mathematics. At the same time, ICC documents have also been increasingly understood and applied by people.

Software and monitors have also made great strides. Apple's Cinema Monitor stands out from the crowd of displays, and customers have been brought into the soft proofing process unconsciously.

Large US publishers want their suppliers to complete the print job and can work without hardcopy proofing. Their reasoning is that sending jobs in digital format and letting FedEx deliver samples from New York to the network of magazine printing companies is meaningless.

Screen proofing of content is an existing feature of almost all production workflow systems. Customers can see a low-resolution proof on paper and check whether the page content is in the right place. The premise is that accurate color proofing has been accepted. . Atelier's DPD, like Dalim's system, can display every page of the magazine so that the progress of the work can be seen at a glance. In Drupa 2004, the first truly pre-check software based on JDF was introduced. However, some companies still have difficulties in turning to soft proofing. KPG promoted this transition. KPG used its Matchprint brand to extend its old analog system to an inkjet proofing system to the current screen proofing system. With the company’s acquisition of RealTimeImage earlier this year, the Matchprint Virtual system was highlighted at drupa, transforming a system that matches the ICC profile to a pixel-streaming system. In order to test the KPG system, it is recommended that customers put forward their most challenging proofs. Usually these proofing problems mostly focus on the red color, because the human eye can easily detect slight differences from the red color. This situation is rare in green and blue.

Once started, KPG will determine that each Matchprint Virtual display is exactly the same as the others.

Although this solution is beyond the scope of daily work, what the company wants to achieve is to develop systems around flat displays. The preferred are the Apple 20-inch and Eizo 21-inch monitors.
