Shock-absorbing inner and outer packaging design for transport packaging

There are various packaging solutions on the market to protect the product. When the goods are being transported, they may be exposed to harsh conditions due to weather conditions and bumpy traffic. Therefore, a strong protective, buffering package is essential.

inner packaging

The inner packaging can provide shipping protection for the product during storage and transportation. A good inner package protects the product from impact and vibration. Even after being impacted and vibrated, the product can be restored to its original shape, further providing a cushioning effect. There are a variety of internal packaging materials and methods available for consideration before shipping and packaging.

Loose particles

This product is mainly used as a sealing material in lightweight articles. It is not recommended to use for flat, narrow or dense products. As this product will shift and settle during storage and transportation, it will cause the package to move and cause the damage rate to increase. The basic requirement is to pack loose granular products not less than 7.62 cm thick around the container. In addition, the packaging needs to be overfilled by at least 5.08 cm in order to prevent displacement and settling.

Inflatable plastic sheet

This packaging material is sealed by air bubbles sandwiched between two layers. With this process, air is trapped inside to form a cushion, which protects the product from vibration. For light products, the inner clip air can play a good buffer effect. At the same time, the material is soft and can be cut according to the shape and size of the package. However, it is not recommended to use this material for packaging heavy products. When using gas-encapsulated plastic sheets, multiple layers should be packaged to ensure that the entire product is fully protected, including the corners of the product.

Polyethylene foam sheet

As a lightweight, soft, flexible foam sheet, this product has a good surface protection and cushioning properties and is particularly suitable for light cargo packaging protection.

Inflatable packaging

Inflatable packaging uses air pressure to firmly hold the product in the shipping container, forming an air cushion, but extreme weather conditions can affect the air pressure in the package. When the temperature is extremely low, the gas volume will be reduced, increasing the space inside the package and increasing the possibility of product damage. When the temperature is extremely high, the air in the bag will expand, causing stress at the joints of the shipping container.

Altitude also affects the air volume in the airbag. When transported from a higher place to a lower place, it will cause the air bag to shrink. Otherwise, it will cause the air bag to expand.

Field foam material

Field foaming materials are produced on-site using chemical mixtures. The chemical mixture expands to form a protective mold around the contents. This process can form a tight protection around the various types of products, supporting corners, and protecting the edges, especially for products that require buffering. When the foam material on the spot is evenly distributed around the object, it can protect the product most effectively. Otherwise, the foam will not protect the product. Density-appropriate foams should be used to meet various packaging requirements, including filling applications and high-performance buffer applications.

Kraft paper

Kraft paper is crumpled by folding to fill unfilled voids in the package and is suitable for packaging lighter or medium weight non-breakable products. When using kraft paper, it should first be creased and filled with at least 10-16 cm thickness around and between the contents. Make sure that the kraft paper is at least 10-16 cm thick on the six sides of the package.

Paper pad packaging

Multi-layer paper pads (not newspapers or newsprint) are particularly suitable for packaging medium to large-sized non-breakable articles and products that require moisture absorption, and in particular, for filling unfilled gaps.

Expanded Polystyrene Foam (EPS)

EPS is a lightweight, moldable, low cost foam with a low impact buffer capacity. The EPS is usually designed with ribs that compress when impacted and then return to its original shape. Compared with other polymer foams such as polyethylene and polyurethane, EPS foams have low resilience and are suitable for shipping non-friable goods.

Polyethylene foam (PE)

PE foam is a low density, cellular foam. Molded or secondary processed PE foams have excellent vibration and shock buffering properties, making them particularly suitable for high value liners or fragile products.

Polyurethane Foam (PU)

PU foam is a kind of low density soft foam with good cushioning effect on vibration and good resilience. Because this is a lightweight, soft foam, it is more suitable for lighter loads.

Corrugated board

Two or more layers of single-wall or double-wall corrugated board can be composited to make blocks or liners. The finished liner can form a protective barrier between the product and the container. Corrugated liners are particularly suitable for heavy semi-fragile and non-breakable products. Corrugated board can be made into various shapes of pallets, linings, partitions and other packaging accessories, with the semi-fragile and non-friable products with each other to improve the integrity of the shipping container.
