Plane definition

A tool with a cutting section for planing.

Planing knives can be divided into longitudinal cutting, cross cutting, grooving, cutting and forming planing knives according to the application. The structure of the planer is basically similar to that of the turning tool, but the planing cutter is intermittently cut and subjected to impact loads. Therefore, under the same cutting section, the cross-section of the shank is 1.25 to 1.5 times larger than that of the turning tool, and a large negative cutting angle (-10° to -20°) is used to improve the impact resistance of the cutting edge. In order to avoid the bending deformation of the planer bar under the cutting force, so that the blade is broken into the workpiece, an elbow planer is usually used. Welded-mechanical clamping planers are often used in heavy machine construction, where the blades are welded to the small cutter head and then clamped to the cutter bar to facilitate tooling, sharpening and handling. In the planing of a large plane, a knives can be used, and the cutting portion is a bowl-shaped cutter head. The circular cutting edge continuously rotates under the action of the cutting force, so the tool wears evenly and the life is high.
