Innovative in-mold coating technology

Bayer, a well-known German materials supplier, has introduced an in-mold coating technology that is ideally suited for automotive interior parts and electrical and electronic products such as tool handles and automotive dashboards. This technique is divided into two steps. The first step is injection molding, injection molding into an injection molded part by ordinary methods. Then the injection molded part is transferred to the next cavity through a turntable or other means. The second step is reaction injection molding, two polyurethanes. (PUR) A thin layer of 1 mm thick is formed on the surface of the injection molded part. This technology can give the product a very high surface quality while at the same time shortening the molding cycle and reducing costs.
