Inactivation effect of gamma ray irradiation on various pathogenic microorganisms in bovine serum products
Normally, fetal bovine serum is collected from cattle without animal diseases, and it is obtained after three successive sterilization filtrations with 0.1 micron pore size filter membranes, while calf serum is filtered with 0.2 micron pore size filtration membranes. The detection method of pathogenic microorganisms is usually enzyme-linked method. However, bovine serum filtered through sterilization alone has the following deficiencies in terms of biological safety:
a) Microorganisms with a size less than 0.2 microns (or 0.1 microns) cannot be filtered out;
b) The negative result of the enzyme-linked method does not necessarily mean that there is no pathogenic microorganisms; if there are pathogenic microorganisms but the sensitivity limit of the enzyme-linked method is not reached, the negative result is also shown;
c) Other unknown pathogenic microorganisms may also exist (other pathogenic microorganisms than the detection type)
On the basis of sterilization and filtration, gamma-ray irradiation further reduces the possibility of the presence of trace pathogenic microorganisms, and double insurance for the "cleanliness and safety" of bovine serum, which meets the safety requirements of various biological products. The inactivation effect of irradiation on various representative pathogenic microorganisms is shown in the table below (irradiation dose 25 ~ 35kGy):

Gamma-irradiated bovine serum products, compared with the same batch of non-irradiated bovine serum products, the cell growth promoting performance is not affected. SAFC Biosciences' SER-TAINTM gamma irradiation treatment technology is a technology verified by the US FDA, and each operation step is strictly verified (packaging method, irradiation dose calculation, irradiation time, temperature control and other links) Each batch of bovine serum is subjected to standardized irradiation treatment to ensure the consistency and stability of the irradiation effect.
