According to foreign media reports, as the largest auto parts manufacturer in Korea, Hyundai Mobis has launched a 3D printing laboratory to produce customized parts for full-size vehicles.
In order to build the Design Model Workshop, Hyundai Mobis paid a construction cost of 3 billion won (about 2.8 million US dollars). It covers an area of more than 430 square meters and is located in Yongin City, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. , Gyeonggi Province) within the Mabuk Technology Center.
The shop is equipped with advanced design equipment including: clay modeling machines and powder-based 3D printers. Designers can use oil sludge to carve full-size vehicles, but use 3D printing equipment to make related automotive parts. According to an executive at Hyundai Mobis, this type of design studio is tailored to the world's scarce auto parts.
The lab will also be used in a variety of different parts for the new model, and the best match will be selected and released. The design process will be more oriented to pipeline operations as the vehicle modeling, sample design, and tuning phases will be performed there. Designers will see the actual size of the component directly, rather than viewing the dimensions from the monitor screen, which allows for a more intuitive experience and helps to better understand the design and production of the component.
According to Hyundai Mobis, its 3D printers are advanced in function, which can significantly reduce production time and production costs.
