After receiving the output file from the customer, the professional output center will first check the file and then output the film. If an error is found, it will generally be processed for the customer. However, customers do not know the mistakes they made in their designs, and they may have the same mistakes next time. Some output centers are reluctant to modify for customers in order to avoid taking responsibility, and only do follow-up inspection and output settings for files.
In order to ensure that the output is correct, it is necessary for the designer to pre-check the pre-output file.
The contents of the inspection generally include the following items:
1. Whether to bring all relevant documents
After the design and production work is completed, the layout files and other output-related files should be saved in the same folder, commonly known as "packaging." The complete file package should include:
â‘ Format files for formal output, made in typesetting software or graphic software.
â‘¡ All image files processed in Photoshop and used in layout files. Because some groups of software need to link the images, it is necessary to provide corresponding high-precision images.
â‘¢ Layout file in JPG or PDF format for screen proofing.
â‘£Other explanatory documents are generally text files or Word files.
Second, whether the document settings are correct
In the design, printing and output process, the settings of page size, plate size (ie bleeding size), and print size (ie paper size) are often involved. Many people are easily confused and equate the page size with the paper size. Causes some confusion during output. In fact, they are different.
①The page size should generally be set to the finished size. For example, the page size of a regular 16K magazine should be 185mm × 260mm, and a large 16K magazine should be 210mm × 285mm.
â‘¡The plate-making size refers to the size with bleeding added to the finished size. Generally, add 3mm to each side of the finished product.
â‘¢ The print size setting is the size of the printed paper or output film. Due to the convenience of post-processing, some marks are added around the page such as cutting lines, crosshairs, gray scale, color control strips, etc., so the size of the printing paper or output film is larger than the page size, generally To increase the page size from 22.2mm to 30mm, the page can be printed or output completely. If the size of the paper or film is not enough, a prompt will appear during printing and output, reminding that the print may not be complete.
3. Check the illustrations on the page
1. Check the image link
If you use PageMaker, Weiss, Founder Book, Illustrator, etc. in the design, you must copy the linked image file and layout file together, check the link of the image, and pay attention to see if the image location is the same as the layout file Folder.
Many designers ignore this aspect of the inspection, because the images can be linked even if they are placed elsewhere on their computer. However, if you leave the machine and the image is not attached, there will be a phenomenon that the image will be output at a low resolution without the link. You should find the path of the image and re-establish the link. In addition, if the page illustration is modified or deleted, the link should be re-established.
For CorelDraw, you don't need to check the link status because it embeds the image in the page. It is not the external link method for the image like the above software.
2. Check whether the image color mode is correct
Check whether the color illustrations used on the page are all CMYK mode. If it is RGB mode or other modes, you should return to Photoshop and convert to CMYK mode, otherwise it will cause unsatisfactory color separation effect and even appear on the black plate only. Case. Check whether the black and white image is in grayscale mode or monochrome bitmap.
3. Check if the image format is correct
The image formats suitable for printing are TIFF format and EPS format. Generally, color bitmap images are stored in TIFF format, while vector graphics are stored in EPS format. It is best to save the black and white image in TIFF format. If you want to save it in EPS format, you need to first convert to CMYK mode, and then delete the contents of the three channels C, M, and Y. Be careful not to use the JPEG compression format, because this will cause the image on the screen to look very clear, and the image will be very blurred after output.
4. Check the image resolution
The setting of the image resolution should be 1.5 to 2 times the number of output screen lines. Note that only bitmap images need to be set for resolution, vector graphics do not need to be set. [next]
Fourth, the inspection of text, lines, color blocks
1. Font and text to curve problem
It is best to use common fonts, such as Founder font and Wending font. Try not to use uncommon fonts. If used, please copy the font to the output center. If there is a supplementary word file, the supplementary word file should also be copied.
If the text input in vector graphics software such as CoreIDraw, Freehand, Illustrator, etc. has no special effect processing, it is recommended to turn it into a curve to avoid the problem that the output center cannot output the font because there is no such font. The text converted into a curve may be distorted when viewed on the screen, but it will not affect the output.
Some fonts will turn into "hollow characters" after turning into curves, such as italic _GB2312, imitation Song _GB2312, Handing special black script, Handing beautiful black script, etc., should be used with caution. In addition, some intersections after the English characters turn into curves will also be hollowed out, so be careful.
The text entered in Photoshop will become part of the image when the layers are flattened, so there is no need to turn the curve.
2. Black text, lines or color blocks
Check whether the color of black text and lines in the layout is four-color black (C100M100Y100K100). The single black shadow should also be changed to four-color black, otherwise the single black shadow will hollow out other color plates, and it will be ugly to print.
It should be noted that the corner lines drawn by yourself should be set to four-color black, not monochrome black, otherwise only the black version will have corner lines when output.
Check if it is set to the overprint method. Generally, the pre-press software will automatically set the black text, lines, and color blocks to the overprint mode to prevent the white leak phenomenon in printing. However, some software needs to be set by yourself, so it is best to check before output.
3. Pay attention to check the highlighted text, lines or color blocks. For highlighted text, lines or color blocks, set them to hollow out rather than overprint. Otherwise, these objects will be lost during export.
4. Other matters that should be noted â‘ Do not do Heavy (Bold) or Bold (bold) text because the Chinese font in FreeHand is very easy to paste if you use Heavy (Heavy); while Chinese in PageMaker uses Bold (Bold), it will become overlapping words with teeth. In addition, it is best not to use Fill and Stroke in FreeHand, because improper use can easily make the words stale. â‘¡Do not use the underline effect for Chinese characters in PageMaker because the lines will jump into the characters when output after use. It is best not to use hollow characters. â‘¢If the text entered by PC is placed in PageMaker, the spaces and carriage returns in the text should be deleted. CorelDraw text layout, if the text is copied from Word or Notepad, double-byte spaces need to be removed (use Word to find / replace), otherwise "bad words" and position shifts are likely to occur. â‘£Check if there are lines less than 0.076mm in the file. If there is, please thicken it properly, because the line width is less than 0.076mm, it is easy to be exposed during printing, and it is difficult to print.
5. Inspection of trapping (fill-in trap)
When the two colors on the page intersect and overlap, in order to avoid white leakage during printing, trapping should be set at the intersection of colors. Don't forget this item when checking. PageMaker, CorelDraw, Illustrator, Indesign, Feiteng and other software all have trap settings, which can also be set in RIP during output.
The main parameter to be set is "trap width". The value depends on the printing process used. The trapping width of general offset printing is 0.063mm ~ 0.127mm, the trapping amount of gravure printing and flexo printing is larger, in the range of 0.2mm ~ 0.3mm, according to the printing accuracy or customer requirements.
Sixth, check the color separation, confirm whether it is four-color or with special color processing
When setting colors, do not confuse special colors (spot colors) with process colors. For four-color printing, no matter how complex the color is, an image only needs to output C, M, Y, and K color separations. However, each spot color must output a color separation film. If the four colors are mistaken for spot colors and output according to the spot color, there may be more than a dozen spot color separation films.
In the prepress application software, spot colors and process colors will be marked differently. Generally, the colors in the default color palette are process colors, while the colors in the ink color library are spot colors.
The above is a summary of some experiences in my work. The shortcomings, please criticize and correct me.
