Environmental problems in the post-press filming process

China has been using the laminating process since the 1970s. The process used at that time was the oily or coated film process. The adhesive used contained oily toluene solvent (commonly known as banana water), which released harmful gases. It is extremely harmful to the health of workers. Many workers who have been engaged in this work for more than three years are not normal in blood, and some even have leukemia. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, some printing companies began to use waterborne polyacrylate adhesives. In 2000, EVA hot melt adhesive precoating process appeared. In 2006, PUR adhesive coating technology appeared. There is also a glueless film process. It can be said that the laminating process is developing in the direction of green environmental protection.

In 2006, the National Development and Reform Commission issued a document prohibiting printing companies from using oil-based coating processes for the contamination of oily toluene solvents. From the current situation, the oily coating film process has been basically eliminated in the domestic printing enterprises, which is an exciting and great thing. However, according to the author's understanding, individual printing companies in some areas of China are still using the oil-based coating process, and using the bad means of changing workers for two years (because workers who have been engaged in this work for more than three years are prone to blood diseases). This is not tolerable. It is recommended that relevant leaders and departments take active measures to ensure the health of workers and protect the environment.

The paper after lamination is difficult to separate from the polyester film, resulting in the waste paper and the paper edge and paper wool that are covered by the film cannot be recycled and cannot be degraded. Some printing companies are forced to burn a large iron bucket by themselves. It is very painful to waste resources and cause secondary pollution. Nowadays, whether it is a paperback or a hardcover book, many covers still use a laminating process, but there is no question about the sorting and recycling of the paper after lamination. So, what about the green after printing? In addition, many polyester films currently used for film coating have the problem of excessive heavy metals, but there is no relevant detection and control method. Therefore, the author suggests that the relevant departments investigate and study the recovery of coated paper, the detection and control of heavy metal in the polyester film, and propose specific solutions.
