ANI Epoxy/Carbon Nanotube Composites Make Breakthrough Progress

AUSTIN, Texas, United States, Nano-Proprietary announced that its subsidiary Applied Nanotech ("ANI") has made a breakthrough in the development of epoxy-based materials. ANI has been working with sporting goods manufacturers for two years in the research and development of this project (media coverage is from September 8, 2005 to December 18, 2006). Based on experimental data from Texas State University in San Marcos, ANI increased the flexural strength of epoxy/carbon nanotube composites by 40% and increased the compressive strength by more than 30%. These performance improvements are due to the chemical physical modification and functionalization of the carbon nanotubes used to increase their compatibility with the epoxy matrix.

Many industries are gradually adopting nanocomposites such as sports server manufacturers, aerospace and the construction industry. Many manufacturers are beginning to try to add fullerenes and carbon nanotubes to make their epoxy materials rigid, lightweight, and higher strength. These epoxy resins used in industry are often in the form of fiber reinforced plastics (FRP). In general, the properties of these new epoxy/carbon nanotube composites do not transfer to FRP, but after using the new composites, ANI increased the flexural strength of the final FRP product by 23%, and similarly the compressive strength was similarly improved.

“Our performance of epoxy nanocomposites, especially the increase in flexural strength, has made us very excited about the successful transfer to FRP. Our potential customers also demanded that we have a similar increase in compressive strength. We believe that in the near future we can The compressive strength of nanocomposites is extended to FRP, said Dr. Zvi Yaniv, CEO of Applied Nanotech, Inc.
